The Hazards of Humanity

1. The story "The perils of Indifference" can be re-written as "The Hazards of Humanity"

2. The ending of "The lottery" was completely ironic for many readers, one would think that the short story was about some lucky guy/girl winning a lottery. The lucky person would have had so much fame and money, nice cars and nice house, but instead the winner at the end of the story gets stones thrown at by the towns people and their own family. This can be related to third world and middle eastern countries where people throw stones at you to kill you if you have gone against the law or done something illegal.

3. Elie Wiesel's speech related to "The Lottery" in many ways both emotionally and physically. The story "The perils of Indifference" is about all the poor experiences that was faced by millons of people abroad. The Vancouver race riots were a group of English men who decided to throw stones and rocks at chinese business's as a sign of intolerance, this is relevent to "The Lottery" because at the end Mrs. Hutchinson gets all the rocks thrown at. Another example of the two, is how in the perils of indifference millions of people are taken to different countries but in the lottery all the townspeople know what is happening and are doing it as a tradition. Both writings have sad endings in which no one is happy, but as we move forward we will always remember the one's who sacrificed their lives for us.
